No matter what Google does to a UI, or what the manufacturers lay over the top, we still want more. Be it in the form of themes, hacks or mods, we can never seem to get enough to keep us happy. The latest edition of modified framework tweaks come from RootzWiki member thepsyntyst. Boy are they a doozy! The first set of modification he has made are for the stock framework animations, but he is hard at work to bring more original animations to us all.
The animation sets should be capable of installing on any phone running any ROM, but testing is a risk you will have to take. Installation has a few methods depending on what you are more comfortable with. He has a flashable zip version, MetaMorph, ROM Toolbox Pro and a Zip Theme version.
Take a look at a video preview below of just one that he is working on.
Believe me when I say you haven’t seen anything yet. You should take a little time to pop on over to thepsyntyst’s RootzWiki thread and take a closer look. These were located under the CDMA Galaxy Nexus section of the forums, but they should still be applicable to any ICS based ROM I would imagine. I just may have to see if they work out on my Vibrant running ICS later this afternoon and let you guys know the out come.

Unknown devices running around in the wild is nothing new to us. People catch the crazy shots of unknown devices sporting all sorts of various OS’s. We are primarily interested in the Android ones of course. Back in the day we used to see blurry cam ninja shots of a device in hand on a sub way. Gone are those days, now we get to see actual real photos of devices that aren’t named yet. Another HTC device that has no name has been snapped and PhoneArena has the scoop on it.
Cruising through all the images they have gotten their hands on, we are looking at a pretty good little device. Although not the Tegra 3 quad-core we are waiting to see. Take a look at the specs pulled from the images -
Judging by the rear battery panel many of you might think Droid Incredible 2. It does have that same signature look. It is very possible we could be looking at a Droid Incredible 3. Perks of the device seem to be Ice Cream Sandwich, albeit 4.0.1, hopefully that will be updated before official announcement and release. It also has that super amazing Sense 4.0 UI overlaid. Lets face it, HTC will never make a AOSP stock phone. They have invested too much time and money into making Sense their signature UI to back down now. The good news? This should put a good device in the hands of people looking for a solid mid-range device packing all the latest and greatest software. Take a look at the small sample of images below.

You might also notice that this particular device is still sporting the four hardware keys. In reality, HTC said they would still do three hardware keys with ICS based device and just eliminate the search key. The style and design of this device still has time to change since technically it doesn’t even exist. What do you guys think? Is this a little look at the Droid incredible 3 or maybe that another mysterious device like the Fireball that we have caught wind of in the past?

Yet again we see some more Ice Cream Sandwich information emerge. Not from an official channel, but from Eldar Murtazin. Who, coincidentally enough, seems to know what is going on most of the time. According to him, the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2 should be picking up an Ice Cream Sandwich update on March 1st.
We wont hold Eldar to that statement, but is sure as heck would be a good time to drop an update. This is no doubt going to be aimed at the international unlock versions first as usual. Don’t expect your stateside version to see it for a while after March. Much of that still rests on the carriers and how and if they want to get it to their customers or not.
In the mean time we will continue to keep an eye on what is happening in the world of Ice Cream Sandwich and let you know what developes.

Google does some of the crazies little thing with in our beloved OS. We are all familiar with their ability to hide funny little things on their website, in the browser tab and by clicking a bunch of times on a certain bit of info inside your device. Somethings aren’t so much hidden as they are overlooked. The latest and funniest one so far that we have seen, is located in the widget section of any ICS ROM or ICS powered device. If you look closely at the list of calendar events you find some clever events planned out.
Some investigation has already gone under way to see if it is some secret release date of something in September, but Tuesday the 26th doens’t happen again till 2016. Looks more likely that the Google guys have a sense of humor and didn’t want to bore us with end of year meeting schedules. Anyone find anything else that makes you laugh just a little?

We generally know what the heck Gameloft is up to before a new game drops. Apparently we missed this one landing yesterday. Gameloft dropped Real Soccer 2012 to the Android market for the amazing price of FREE. Sounds like a great deal to me. The game graphics look pretty stellar and it packs in some great customization options. RS2012 is also graced with an official FIFPRO license, meaning that thousands of ‘real’ players, 350 teams and 14 league championships are available.
One of the mentioned additions in the game is a pretty unique one. Thanks to Hypergame technology, you can simply tap on a game from the in-game news feed and recreate the game you just watched. Take a brief read at what else RS2012 is packing -
STAND OUT ON THE FIELD WITH CUSTOM KITS
Create your own custom team jerseys, shorts and more using a detailed editor, then share it with the rest of the community, or look for cool designs made by other players and use them yourself.
THE BIGGEST, MOST ENJOYABLE SOCCER COMMUNITY
Get the latest soccer news thanks to official RSS feeds from goal.com, as.com and sports.fr. Send your comments, interact with friends, upload pictures and videos.
SOCCER AT ITS FINEST
Enjoy smoother and more realistic graphics for both players and stadiums.
Over 700 motion-capture-based animations that adjust to players’ skills and positions on the field.
Smarter moves for your teammates and opponents on the field thanks to an improved AI.
New effects and cutscenes during the games for an even more TV-like soccer experience.
THE OFFICIAL FIFPRO LICENSE
Thousands of real players’ names, 350 teams and 14 league championships to play including England, Spain, France, Germany and South America.
Online updates of the database will keep your game up to date with the most recent player transfers and lineup changes.
MANY GAME MODES TO ENJOY
Access many different game modes including Exhibition, League and various International Cup modes, or practice your skills in Training mode.
You can also take over your favorite team as a manager and lead it to glory, or replay the best games of the past by entering History mode.

It has yet to see a huge following though. The market is showing 100-500 downloads and the few comments that are written lean more towards greatness. Some are claiming horrible controls and recommending other games like PES2012 and Fifa10. Both of those cost you a couple of bucks though. We don’t see any mention of in-app purchases tough. Which is odd. With all that is packed into this game there has to be a catch too why it is free. Unfortunately I was unable to install it and take a look. Feel free to pop into the market and give it a whirl for your self. After all, it will only cost you a bit of time to see if it is worth it or not to you.

It has been a pretty good week for application developers to drop updates. Almost ever day this week I have had something waiting in the wings the market to give me something new to an app I already use. Netflix has just dropped an update to the market moving it to version 1.7. The update has a four total additions this go round. They have added Facebook sharing from phones and tablets in Latin America, Canada the UK and Ireland. There is a new volume control slider for tablet users. They have improved the audio/video syncing on both tablets and phones and last but not least, they resolved the split picture and flickering that many tablet users were suffering from.
Pretty descent update with some fairly awesome new functions. Personally the audio/video syncing improvements will be the most important to me. That happens to me at least 3 times a week, drives me nuts. Pop into the market to and to ‘My Apps’ to go ahead and snag the update now, or if you are really lazy, click or scan the QR code to go straight to it in the market for updating.

Technology moves faster than our budgets and contracts seem too. We start out loving our single-core device, only to see dual-core start hitting the market. You finally get enough cash to snag one and BAM! here comes quad-core. They aren’t readily available in handset just yet, but they are on their way.
Just yesterday we saw a NVIDIA press invite with some great little bits of info about Tegra 3 hitting handsets and being shown off at MWC. Today we catch another little tidbit of information from DigiTimes. They are confirming that NVIDIA is shipping Tegra 3 chips to HTC to use in their newest flagship device, the HTC Edge. Being that HTC is a tried and true user of Qualcomm chips, a variation on components would help give HTC something new and different finally. Instead of various dual-core chips clocked differently.
There apparently is also confirmation that LG is picking up the T3 for the Optimus X3 and Fujitsu for its Arrows tablet. Looks to be a great year for NVIDIA and for manufacturers if things pan out. I can’t wait to see what devices get to see the hands of the press later this month.

Have you been considering rooting your Droid RAZR? We don’t blame you. What reasonable person wouldn’t want too? Thanks to some work by mattlgroff over at XDA, you now have a great Windows based utility to work with. The developer of the tool has a lite and full version available for your use. The differences are pretty minor. The full version of each includes the fastboot files where as the lite version does not.
Yo can see the tool doesn’t just root your device. It has a whole slew of useful options and setting incorporate into one application. Looks like it should help make your RAZR hackery life a bit easier. For full details and all download files, go check out mattlgroff’s XDA thread. Have fun, be safe and let us know how everything works out.

We could be very close to seeing the first viable Android powered camera. According to AndroidAndMe Samsung has filed patents with the USPTO for a product called the Samsung Galaxy Camera. If this is indeed true who better to bring us an Android powered camera than Samsung. With their vast knowledge in Camera’s and Android it only seems the right mix to produce a functional and viable product. I know what you’re thinking, I already have a great 8mp shooter on my smartphone. Indeed cell phone cameras get better every year, but seriously they will not replace a good camera with rich optics.
The integration of the Android OS is not clear here but I can imagine social network integration will be one of the selling points for this camera. Being able to snap great shots and sharing to your social stream or upload to cloud services seems to be a natural way to go for a product like this. But I digress. All we have at this point is a patent filing and no actual product, so maybe we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves. But it’s oh so fun to think of what can be done, isn’t it? Hit the link for more on this story.

Late last night we posted up a story about how easy it would be for a person to jack your PIN on Google Wallet. The original story was focused on rooted devices only. Later, it was revealed that a person could easily jack your Google Wallet account on a stock phone as well. The newest information doesn’t have any special hackery skills involved at all.
TheSmartPhoneChamp site posted a video on YouTube that demonstrates how stupid easy it is to utilize the security vulnerability. The thief would need to snag your device for just a moment and clear the apps data in the settings. That forces Google Wallet to prompt for a new PIN. Once they set a new PIN, all that is left is adding a Google Pre-Paid card to tie the device and card together.
As simple as it sounds, it is true. Taylor Wimberly at AndroidandMe gave it a shot on his stock Gnex and it worked like a charm. Now that another security hole has been discovered in Google Wallet, we fully expect Google to be issuing an update soon. Before, when it was root only they were covered. Now that a stock device has an even easier way to steal a PIN floating around they better get a solution in place ASAP.
To help protect yourself from this new type of thievery, you can always set up a lock on your lockscreen, but we know that is a pretty big headache at times. Your other option, don’t use/install Google Wallet till it is patched up somehow. Seems no one is safe anymore. Check out the quick video below of how stupid easy this is.

Everyone has their preferred keyboard for their device. Some choose Swype, others like A.I. Type, while some stick to the stock Android keyboard. There are however a select group of us that switch keyboards often and love testing out new versions, updates and betas. SwiftKey X has released a new Alpha build today for its VIP members to check out. The build addresses user concerns with punctuation.
The new testing has begun today and runs through March 9th. SwiftKey asks the VIP members to be on the look out for various changes they implemented and see if they fixes are working or causing more grief. This is limited to just current VIP members and is not an open beta for the world to try out. Below is a list of some of the key changes that are being tested out.
Closing brackets: The space before } ] ) is removed and a space after the closing bracket is added. So if you write SwiftKey) by selecting SwiftKey as a prediction, the space between SwiftKey and ) is deleted and another space is inserted after the closing bracket.
Closing quotes: If you type “I like SwiftKey” by selecting SwiftKey as a prediction the space between SwiftKey and ” is deleted and another space is inserted after the closing quote. This behaviour is adjusted for quotation marks used in other languages such as « », „ “, etc.
You can access the various quotation marks by long pressing the ” key in the 123 panel of the keyboard.
French: There is now a space both before and after ! and ?
So if you write Bonjour ! by selecting Bonjour as a prediction, the space between Bonjour and ! remains and another space is inserted after the exclamation mark.
Notice that typing another ! gives you Bonjour !! (without a space between the two exclamation marks).
No space is added after : and ; to allow you to write smileys without having to delete this space.
Arabic: Arabic inverted comma, semicolon and question mark now behave like their English counterparts.
Greek: The Greek questionmark now behaves like its English counterpart.

When an Android user finally decides to take the plunge into the world of root and custom ROM’s it is a little bit scary. Reading through hundreds of post about rooting your particular device, seeing scary warnings and reading horror stories can ultimately put a person off. To make matters worse, a simple question that you have spent hours searching for gets met with less than friendly responses. Having the resources we have available to us via XDA, RootzWiki and many other locations is a God send, but not always enough. So enters Root-Ed to help you and everyone else out there.
The application was coded up by Kwogger and the visuals and codes tweaks were handled by B-boy™ and Bentobox. You may recognize some of those names. It is a free application with its primary goal to give LIVE help for rooting any device, detailed guidance with flashing a custom ROM, themes, kernels and general technical help with your Android device. Obviously this application won’t do you much good if you are stuck in a bootloop, but prior to breaking your device you will have somewhere to get those nagging questions answered. It is a pretty remarkable app idea. If you pop in and ask a question and don’t get an immediate response, be a little patient. The admin have lives too, but are dedicated to being with you and your issue shortly.
If you have ever had questions that you can’t find answer too, or would like to use your knowledge in a live support setting, you should definitely check out this app. Click or scan the QR code below to pick it up and get it installed.
