[New Game] Data Tunnel; Can you by pass security fast enough to avoid Detection

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

A Data Stream processes millions of terabyte’s of data a second globally. You are using a data stream right now to view this article and our website. Alternatively, data streams are the how hackers gain access to computers, intercept calls and cause the general amount of debauchery. Data Tunnel is a game based on a hackers inside perspective of screaming through a Data Stream, avoiding security features and reaching the core processor before being detected.

You will use your devices accelerometer for steering and touch the screen to boost your speed. Keeping your eyes focused on the tunnel ahead to steer around obstacles and various other troublesome entities. The first couple of levels in the demo are pretty easy. Giving you a little time to get used to the speed at which you are traveling and how responsive your steering is. You get 6 levels to scream through for no charge with no time limits and no ads.

The graphics of the game look exceptional. The developer has done a great job making it look great and play great. Once you get your dose Data Tunnel in the demo version, you will want to snag the full version for sure. The full version offers a bit more intensity. You will have 25 levels to maneuver through and 7 various unlockable ‘Data Runners’ to choose from. Each runner has its own characteristics. One mmay give you greater speed but is slower to maneuver, while another may be a little slower but maneuver extremely quickly. Finding the right runner to get to the processor before time runs out is the trick. Sometime slow and stead wins the race. It gets pretty crazy after you get going.

To kick the replay value up a bit, each level is randomly generated based on a set of algorithms. If missed a power up, or thought you memorized the tunnel the first time through, you will be wrong. The enemies, obstacles and power ups are randomly generated ever time you play a level. Check out some screen shots and the official trailer below.

If you guys looking for a visually pleasing game that is fast paced and changes randomly, then Data Tunnel is a great title to check out. Below you can click or scan the QR code for the demo version to get a feel for the game. I bet after you weave your way through the demo though, you will have to snag the full version. It is well worth the $1.99 the developer is asking for it.

Fat Jump for iPhone – Game Review

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

If you’ve ever played Doodle Jump, you know what the fuss is all about. Its crazy addicting, fun, and you just can’t put your phone down because your little guy just wants to keep jumping. Fat Jump is another similar game that will keep your addiction alive with excellent graphics and game physics.

As you probably already know, the game is very simple to play. By using the accelerometer, you will have to tilt your phone to control the direction of your little green friend. If you tilt your devices to the point where the little green man hits the edge of the screen, he will then magically appear on the other side of the screen to continue the action. This can be either very convenient or extremely confusing, but will regardless spice up the jumping fiasco. Now that you know how to control the man, you should be aware of some key things to avoid. Cookies and bad guys. Bad guys seem pretty straight forward and self explanatory. But why cookies? Aren’t they so delicious and crunchy? Well, yes. They are. But they will also take a toll on your waste line and contribute enormous weight gain that will inhibit your jumping abilities and limit the maximum height your little green man will be able to jump at any one time. Instead, go for the fruit, which will not only help cancel out the negative effects of cookies but also add extra points. Feel free to apply this same valuable lesson to your personal life, which I think is a great subliminal message of the game.

So how does this compare to Doodle Jump? The answer is ultimately for you to decide but in my opinion, sleek graphics, healthy message and great presentation make Fat Jump a real winner when it comes to simple iPhone gameplay. You can’t go wrong with an addicting game like Fat Jump. Not only will it help you kill some time, but it just might help you take that extra step and reach for an apple rather then a fat-filled cookie. I encourage to grab yourself a copy of Fat Jump for your iPhone on the App Store.

Libra Balance Fantasy – A Hardcore 3D Ball-Roller – On Sale

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

Budapest, Hungary – The Gamma Project has announced that effectively immediately they are dropping the game’s price from $1.99 to $0.99. Libra Balance is a 3D tilt game for fans of Labyrinth and other Ball-Rollers.

The core gameplay of Libra Balance is not at all complicated, but in practice ends up being pretty challenging and very fun. The entire goal of the game is to guide either 5 or 6 balls depending on the level on a rotating platform into a hole on said platform. The rotations of the platform are controlled via the accelerometer on your device.

You must twist and tilt the platform to guide the balls into the hole on the platform while navigating around objects like crystals, mushrooms, fairy oaks, greek columns, traffic cones, barrels, road blocks, and more.

There are four different level packs, each of them with eight different 3D themes:

Playground:
The easiest pack, with quite easy levels. The obstacles in this pack are mainly hills and indents in the platform. This pack serves as a nice intro into the game.

Classic:
This pack introduces solid obstacles that you must circumnavigate around with the balls. The levels in this pack are a good bit harder than the ones in playground.

Ancient:
A more difficult pack, with an ancient theme. The pack has some very challenging levels – mix this with higher difficulty level and you have yourself quite a proposition.

Fantasy:
This pack introduces the player into the World of the elves and Fairies. A bonus level pack which includes the most beautiful and colorful worlds in this game.

There are three difficulty levels:

Easy:
The ball that fell off will just be placed back onto the platform. The other balls will not be affected.

Medium:
All balls will be returned to their original starting positions on the platform when another ball falls off (if a ball has already gone through the hole it will not return; only active balls will be returned to starting positions.)

Hard:
Same result as medium, however the catch in this is that all balls will be returned to their starting positions whenever a ball goes through the hole

The level is completed when all balls are put into the hole. You are then awarded a score based on time taken to complete the level as well as whether your balls fell off the platform or not.

The game has autosave which is very nice.

The music is very high tempo and gets you excited to play the game, and the in-game sound effects get the job done.

The graphics are very well done in 3D. The balls and landscapes look very good on my device and are very smooth. The graphics are very detailed – still I never had any problems with frame rate.
The menus fit the game very nicely matching the look of the game and having balls from the actual gameplay balls rolling around everywhere. The icon is fantastic – one of the best on my device.

The content is pretty good, you’re getting a fair amount for your money. Libra Balance has four theme packs with eight levels each and most levels have a good amount of variety. The game does not feel repetitive to play through. The implementation of high scores also adds a lot of replay value.

The tilt controls are implemented very nicely, and the physics are spot-on.

What the game does do great is provide a unique experience and great graphics. The gameplay is fun and I had a great time playing through the game, I can also see myself going back to replay levels and beat my scores to move up the Game Center leaderboards.
I would strongly recommend this game to fans of Labyrinth and other Ball-Rollers.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 4.1 or later
* 14.1 MB

Libra Balance Fantasy 1.8 is currently $0.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category.

3D Jingle Balls – A fun Christmas themed game – On Sale Now

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

Budapest, Hungary – The Gamma Project has announced that effectively immediately they are dropping the game’s price from $1.99 to $0.99. 3D Jingle Balls is a fun, 3D tilt game. The graphics and music combine to create a pretty cool holiday themed experience.

The core gameplay of 3D Jingle Balls is rather simple in theory, as well as rather fun in practice. The entire goal of the game is to guide 5 balls on a rotating platform into a hole on the platform. The rotations of said platform are controlled via the accelerometer on your device. You must twist and tilt the platform to guiding ball into the hole on the platform while at the same time keeping the other four balls from falling off the edge.

You will have to navigate the balls around objects like presents, Christmas trees, snowmen, teddy bears, and more.
If a ball happens to fall off the edge your score will be hurt. If a ball has already been put through a hole it will not be returned even if another ball falls off later.

The level is completed when all five balls are put into the hole. You are then awarded a score based on time taken to complete the level as well as whether your balls fell off the platform or not.
The game has autosave which is very nice.

There are three difficulty levels:
* Easy mode: if a ball happens to fall off the edge, it will reduce your highscore less than in other modes
* Medium: if a ball falls off, all balls remaining on the platform will be returned to their original starting place, and your highscore suffers more compared to Easy mode. However, if you manage to put the ball in the hole, your rewards will be higher
* Hard: it gives you the highest scores if you succeed to drive the ball in the hole; however it resets all balls’ positions to their original one whether you score or a ball falls off the edge

The music sets the mood very nicely. It feels very Christmasy. It is professional while still being fun.

The graphics are very well done in 3D. The balls and landscapes look very good on and are very smooth. I can tell a lot of work went into the design of the graphics, as they are very detailed.
I never had any problems with frame rate.

The menus fit the game very nicely with a Christmas look and gameplay balls rolling around everywhere. The icon is fantastic, one of the best on my device.

What the game does best is put you in that holiday spirit. The graphics and music combine to create a pretty cool holiday themed experience.

The game is perfect for those looking to get into the Christmas mood and maintain their holiday spirit, tilt game fans, and labyrinth type game fans should give this a look.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 3.0 or later

Google Nexus One gets full CyanogenMod 9 Ice Cream Sandwich Port

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Google Nexus One

Many of you might remember Google saying that the Nexus One was out of luck, in terms of getting an official Ice Cream Sandwich update. CyanogenMod 9 has officially been ported to the device, making the Android community laugh in the face of Google’s suggestion that the good ol’ N1 was at the end of its lifespan. In the past few days, we’ve seen a handful of Android 4.0 ports surface for several different devices, but I know there’s a ton of people out there who still rock the OG Google phone like there’s no tomorrow — rightfully so, too — the device still ranks higher on the list than a few of the phones that have come out in the past two quarters. If you’re in that group of Nexus One owners who were feeling a bit left out, it’s time to turn that frown upside down.

Texasice, a member of the XDA Forums, has managed to get a pretty darn good ROM up and available for those of you brave enough to give it a spin. You’ll want to remember, this is still in an early beta stage, so there are a few things that need to be worked out yet before this will qualify as your daily driver. Here’s a look at what’s already working:

  • 3G Radio
  • Accelerometer
  • Bluetooth
  • Calling
  • Compass
  • GPS
  • Headphone jack
  • Home button (long press for task switcher)
  • Led (TrackBall) Notifications (only white)
  • MMS
  • Network Stats and Quota
  • Sound
  • TouchScreen
  • Wifi
As you can see, there’s a ton of progress that has already been made. Here’s what is not working yet:
  • Trackball
  • Camera
  • USB mass storage (use adb)
  • Hardware Accelaration
  • Wifi Signal Strengh Icon in Status Bar
  • Screenshots
  • Some gapps sync items are intermittent
As far as progress is concerned, this project is one of the more advanced ones, in terms of what’s already working. If you’re ready to step into the future of Android and experience Ice Cream Sandwich, hit up texasice’s thread on XDA for all the juicy deetz.
Remember, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP, and we’re not responsible if you brick your phone. Read the directions carefully and pay attention to what you’re doing and things will be smooth sailing. You have my word!
Happy flashing, Kids!

Alpha Combat: Defend Your Country iPhone App Review

Alpha Combat for iPhone 1 200x300 Alpha Combat Defend Your Country: Macho Title, Geeky Arcade Glee

Reviewed by Luke Patrick

Alpha Combat: Defend Your Country iPhone app by developer Bluecloud, is yet another iPhone release to hark back to the golden era of arcade shoot-em-ups—you know, the kind you’d see at the local pizza joint on a Friday night. It’s chock full of blasting action, and if you’re a fan of the genre, you owe it yourself to try this Open Feint and Game Center enabled title. For our full thoughts on Alpha Combat, check out our iPhone app review below.

Concept and Gameplay ****~ (4/5)

As mentioned, the gameplay of Alpha Combat is a near constant homage to a time when all one needed to craft a hit game was a couple of good sprites and an endless array of baddies. The app has players controlling a single plane that shoots a never-ending stream of bullets at wave after wave of oncoming baddies. Players control their plane with the use of a single finger, which at first was killer, though later on we decided we’d much rather make use of the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer to get the job done: Having a finger in the way really gummed up the works. Thankfully, our tilting desires are also included here, leaving us only with a distinct pining for a joystick or on-screen D-pad.

To offset this downside, however, Alpha Combat does come with a whole slew of weapons upgrades that keep the ball rolling. Likewise, there’s a whopping 7 levels (these are really more like missions) to keep the player interested, as well as more than enough achievements to choke a horse. If you’re into the kind of leader board heavy, skill building competitiveness that is Game Center and Open Feint integration, you’re in for a real treat with Alpha Combat: The game features both in spades, and will delight on the online diehard to no end. All in all, it’s a tight package that made us wax a little more than nostalgic over the good-old-days of top-down baddie blasting—though we’re certainly glad to save the quarters!

Design and Graphics ***½~ (3.5/5)

Alpha Combat for iPhone 2 200x300 Alpha Combat Defend Your Country: Macho Title, Geeky Arcade Glee

Alpha Combat for iPhone

Aside from the lack of a joystick, we were quite enthralled with Alpha Combat’s excellent three dimensional graphics. This isn’t a completely 3D experience, as players view the action from a top-down perspective, though we found the mix of two dimensional gaming and 3D fun quite engaging.

However, we weren’t as big a fan of the in-app purchases, which are required to unlock new planes. We’ve already payed a dollar for the app, making us feel much less inclined to spend another on features we’d rather have as prizes.

Overall Value ****~ (4/5)

That being said, the baddie blasting fun of Alpha Combat is only a dollar in the App Store. If you’re a fan of arcade shooters, you can hardly go wrong spending that kind of money. Likewise, as it won’t break the bank to test drive the action, Alpha Combat comes with our full recommendation.

iPhone As a Keylogger Tool is Possible

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Ready for this one? A keylogger tool might be possible on an iPhone because of the accelerometer.

The iPhone, running the highly secured iOS operating system, is known for being rock solid (but that doesn’t mean that it’s not without its exploits, as jailbreak hackers Comex, Geoh0t, i0n1c, and many more have proven over the years). The operating system is as simple as it is complex and yet a couple of researchers from Georgia Tech report that they can use the iPhone’s accelerometer to log keystrokes on keyboards that are within a few inches from the device. The accelerometer is the part of the device

iPhone App Review: Ninja Fall Down

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Combining two hit genres, ninjas and falling down, developer Smobile Co. has released Ninja Fall Down. Using the iOS device’s accelerometer, guide your stealthy through gaps in the floor of an ever-heightening tower. Gather magic power-ups and use your special ability to help you gather coins and avoid disappearing off the top of the screen. There is even a store where you can spend the coins you’ve gathered in the game on improving the frequency and effect of the power-ups.

How It Works

Ninja Fall Down is a simple tilt-and-tap falling-down game. Tilt the device to guide the ninja to gaps in the floor, so that he can fall down farther and avoid the top of the screen (where he dies). The map is constantly streaming upwards, increasing in speed as the game goes on. Tapping makes the ninja jump, and holding the tap activates a power that lets him fall through floors (at a cost of power).

There are several power-ups in the game. One adds mana to your Chakra (used for your special ability), another increases your speed, another causes you to teleport around the map gathering all of the coins. Coins you gather can be spent in the Store, available from the main menu, where you can improve the game’s power-ups.

Pros And Cons

Ninja Fall Down is an addictive, well-made title that’s fun and easy to pick up and play at any time. The levels are endless, so it’s all about beating your score and gathering coins to make future attempts easier through improving your powers in the Store. You can also use the in-app purchase feature to buy stacks of coins.

The graphics and sound are good, and the game gradually ramps up the difficulty by speeding up the map as you descend further and further towards… well, I don’t know what. There’s a story to the game somehow, but it really doesn’t matter that much.

Overall

Ninja Fall Down is a great little game that provides hours of casual fun that can be enjoyed in very short bursts of play. The ability to spend coins in order to change the frequency of power-up drops and their effect gives this falling-down title longevity that others in the genre may not have. It’s fun and original style, along with solid and addictive gameplay, makes it a winner.

iPhone to Get Gyro Stabilization for Video Recording?

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Anyone who has an iPhone 4 and does any kind of video recording knows that even the slightest jolt will cause the frames in the video capture to go nuts. The iPod Touch 4G has a much more stable video capture in terms of movement. That’s not to say that the iPhone doesn’t have a great camera; 5 megapixels and auto-focus is wonderful but there is a lot to be desired when you are up and walking around and shooting video at the same time. Let’s face it, it’s extremely jittery.

Apple has noticed its users’ desperate cries for more stable video recording. A patent was found titled, “Accelerometer/Gyro-Facilitated

Drivers Challenge Academy – Mars iPhone App Video Review

Drivers Challenge Academy 1 300x200 Drivers Challenge Academy: To Mars And Back With Endless, Endless Driving

Reviewed by Luke Patrick

Drivers Challenge Academy – Mars, by developer Nextwork di Simonluca Scillitani, provides a unique racing experience on the iPhone and iPad, letting players take their skills to the stars with a Mars-based adventure. The continuous driving aspect of the game mechanic is refreshing, though there’s much that the application could stand to work on. Shoddy physics aside, it’s still a title worth looking at if you’re an iOS racing fan. With that in mind, check out our review below for our full thoughts on Drivers Challenge Academy.

Concept and Gameplay ***~~ (3/5)

Drivers Challenge Academy provides an initial racing experience that’s like most other genre titles available for the iPhone and iPad (It’s worth noting that Drivers Challenge Academy is in fact a Universal application, bringing its otherworldly driving to both your Big and Little iDevice.) Users control their car via the gas pedal along the bottom right, and the reverse pedal along the left. There’s a handbrake in the middle for making sudden stops, and directional controls are delegated to the device’s accelerometer.

The app’s levels all feature a stellar (no pun intended) Mars theme, as the game is set at that location. Because of this, player’s must charge through complex labyrinths, strange piles of goop, and copious jumps. Levels are not constructed in the traditional way, leading players around a track so many times: Rather, the user simply drives until they’ve collected enough points to progress to the next level.

It’s a unique concept, and one that would be quite engaging, if it weren’t for Drivers Challenge Academy’s absolutely tank-like physics. The car controls very slowly, and there’s a distinct lack of organic control where the car is concerned. A few modifications in this area could easily unlock the app’s obvious potential.

Design and Graphics ***½~ (3.5/5)

Drivers Challenge Academy 2 300x200 Drivers Challenge Academy: To Mars And Back With Endless, Endless Driving

Drivers Challenge Academy

Physics problems aside, Drivers Challenge Academy’s graphics are good, though not the best we’ve ever seen on the iPad. This is not Real Racing HD, and in fact, the app reminded us most of old PlayStation One racing games. This isn’t so much a turn-off, though, especially if you like retro racers. However, the intertextual menus very greatly deserve a graphics overhaul, as the amateurish design is quite the downside.

Thankfully, there’s quite a few cars to be unlocked in the garage. However, there’s no Game Center or Open Feint integration, which is a tremendous drag for any racing game. Adding achievements, leader boards, and online match making would be a godsend for Drivers Challenge Academy.

Overall Value ***~~ (3/5)

Considering Drivers Challenge Academy costs $1.99 in the App Store, its unique game mechanic is easily worth a test drive. However, with less-than-killer physics, debatably poor graphics, and a lack of amenities (online play, achievements, etc.) the game is a hard recommendation.

Android on the HP TouchPad is growing even closer, more issues have been Handled

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

The last time we had good news to report on an Android port for the HP TouchPad was nearly 2 weeks ago. At that time, CyanogenMOD team members had fixed the GPU Acceleration and solved the color issues. With patience comes more news. The team didn’t just suddenly stop working on the project , in fact, they have moved through a lot of other issues in a very short amount of time.

The latest developments to come from the project include a whole slew of new fixes. They have WiFi up and running, sound is fixed, of course the accelerometer is functioning, along with 3D games and video acceleration. Just to name a few. They certainly don’t waste any time do they?

With progress they are making to bring Android to those of you that were lucky enough, or smart enough, to snag the HP TouchPad when it was available, a full port should be just around the corner. I am sure it will roll out much like all CM ROMs do, in the form of nightlies. Just as soon as they have it stable enough for the Android junkie out there. Until then, check out the progress in the videos below and start drooling about that Android goodness.
