Unofficial proof-of-concept build of Portal alive and Well

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

Many of you big gamers clicked just because you saw the game name “Portal.” That is just fine by me. Seems the guys over at AndroidPolice have snagged up an Alpha port of the famed game being developed and created for Android. Sadly, this alpha build isn’t under construction by VALVe. That doesn’t mean it isn’t any less awesome though. The alpha version that is floating around the outer reaches of the web isn’t necessarily worth the time to dig out, at least not yet.

While it looks great and seems to play well, it doesn’t really give you much to do. The build is more of a proof-of-concept just to prove that it is feasibly possible to bring the game to Android. It has been ported over on the Unity Engine by a team of developer in Russia. It will most likely never make it to the official Android market, ever. Which is sad, but we hope that maybe VALVe will take notice and see that there is an interest in making this game mobile. Until that day, check out the video of the alpha below.  (The choppiness is related to the recording software not the game.)

How many of you would love to see a true version of Portal land on Android from VALVe?

Samsung Epic 4G gets a dose of CyanogenMOD 9 [Video]

Samsung Epic 4G CyanogenMOD 9

Owners of the Samsung Epic 4G will be excited to learn that an alpha version of CyanogenMOD 9 was made available yesterday, thanks to the hard work and efforts from the EpicCM team. Granted, there’s still a long list of bugs and issues that need to be dealt with — this is far from a stable release — but, none of the problems are what we consider to be deal breakers if you’re just itching to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich. To get your paws on the instructions and files you’ll need to make the deal happen, head over to the download page on the EpicCM site. Check out this video review, uploaded to YouTube by qbking77.

CyanogenMod 7 Visits the HTC Thunderbolt

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

CyanogenMOD banner

Among the many phones rolling out over the next couple of months a popular theme is found. There’s still a lot of them debuting with Froyo builds. The HTC Thunderbolt was a victim of this, right in the wake of select Gingerbread updates a new flagship device emerges with the same ol piece of software. Granted the Thunderbolt came sporting a second gen processor and additional RAM making it run circles around predecessors, it was still capable of so much more. Most of the popular devices already had successful versions of CyanogenMod 7  making them speedy, efficient and damn sexy might I add. Leaving the Thunderbolt with another disadvantage. Or maybe not?

Although HTC has said that Verizon’s first LTE device would be getting a swift upgrade to Gingerbread it looks like TeamDouche is going to beat them to the punch as an Alpha version of the popular AOSP ROM is now available for this phone. As we’re seeing with many phones now that CM7 has reached a stable release, CyanogenMod is spreading like hot doughnuts in a police station.

If you’d like to check functionality of this new build or just simply read more information check out the XDA thread. Just a reminder this is an alpha build, do not expect to get a daily driver out of this.
