Root-Ed gets updated, get LIVE support for rooting, flashing, kernels and all that is Great

Friday, February 10th, 2012

When an Android user finally decides to take the plunge into the world of root and custom ROM’s it is a little bit scary. Reading through hundreds of post about rooting your particular device, seeing scary warnings and reading horror stories can ultimately put a person off. To make matters worse, a simple question that you have spent hours searching for gets met with less than friendly responses. Having the resources we have available to us via XDA, RootzWiki and many other locations is a God send, but not always enough. So enters Root-Ed to help you and everyone else out there.

The application was coded up by Kwogger and the visuals and codes tweaks were handled by B-boy™ and Bentobox. You may recognize some of those names. It is a free application with its primary goal to give LIVE help for rooting any device, detailed guidance with flashing a custom ROM, themes, kernels and general technical help with your Android device. Obviously this application won’t do you much good if you are stuck in a bootloop, but prior to breaking your device you will have somewhere to get those nagging questions answered. It is a pretty remarkable app idea. If you pop in and ask a question and don’t get an immediate response, be a little patient. The admin have lives too, but are dedicated to being with you and your issue shortly.

If you have ever had questions that you can’t find answer too, or would like to use your knowledge in a live support setting, you should definitely check out this app. Click or scan the QR code below to pick it up and get it installed.

Ready to give your ICS Gmail a new look, B-boy has your Back

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

I am almost mad at myself for getting so side tracked with life and forgetting about the amazing work that our themers are doing on the back-end. Many of you know who B-boy is. We have brought a lot of his work forward for many people to enjoy. He has themed out GMail and G+ apps in the past and they always looked great. With the iteration of a new Android OS, comes time for new themes and new ways to implement them. Since the ICS framework is a little different. That doesn’t stop the guys from working with it till it works.

One of B-boys latest themed out creations is a twist on our Gmail account. Totally blacking it out and giving it the dark appearance that many of us have grown to love. Take a look at a few screenshots below so you can really see how great this looks.

So, what do you guys think? Are you ready to give your Nexus, or maybe your iced out ROM a little face lift? If you are, then you will want to head over B-boys thread at RootzWiki to get the latest themed apk and install instructions.

Trick out that Market to match your new GMail MOD

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Yesterday we posted up a preview of some of the amazing work the @B_boytm has done to offer us a themed out version of GMail. So many options to choose from I didn’t even know where to start. Since he seems to be the primary modder of our beloved Google apps, I thought we should continue the trend and give you a chance to pick up some more of his work.

Other than themeing out the GMail app for your enjoyment, he also keeps the latest Android market updates slightly tweaked to give your device the overall look that you desire. The last update to the market was version 3.1.5 and brought in some new features. Most notably was the +1 button to apps in the market. He currently has 2 versions available for the latest update. A dark market and a clear market. One thing that I have always liked about B-Boy is the extra leg work he does to ensure everyone has an option to get his themed apps installed. He offers the signed apk and an update zip file of each.

Both of the mods look pretty sweet and offer you a unique look that many others won’t have. He also has a multitude of colors available, but they are for the 3.1.3 version of the market. Which is still very functional. If you choose one of the colored options be sure to have Titanium Backup installed so you can freeze the MarketUpdater app. that will prevent your device from updating to the newer market and prevent you from losing the themed version. Just remember the 3.1.3 market doesn’t have the +1 button available.

There are some install instructions available on B-boys thread that you will want to read through prior to installing anything to your device. Be sure to make a backup before you flash or install anything so if you have any issues you can always revert back with out doing a full wipe.

Head on over to B-boys Rootzwiki thread to get the files needed to make this mod happen.

Inverted and transparent GMail with seven various color Options

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

It has been a while since I checked in on some of our themers. I usually check on what they have done shortly after an update to the apps that we all have and love. One of the more recent apps to update in the last couple weeks was GMail. Staying true to his dedication, B-Boy, has made all of his modifications available for the latest update, 2.3.5.2.

The list of choices is absolutely amazing. We have to hand it to the guy for keeping up with all the choices and the updates. Take a look at the gallery below to get a look at just a few of the option he has provided us with.

Tired of the stock GMail look? Try out a transparent GMail Theme

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

We have posted various themed out and modified version of various applications to help keep a refreshing look on your device. Thanks to a lot of hard work by so many devs, the options don’t ever stop. After the last GMail update that was rolled out, B-boy and ecsnead69 got to work and gave us a very nice blacked out version that I have been using ever since. I personally love the blacked out apps. I also really like transparent versions. The 2 guys from RootzWiki have added that option to their list of currently available modifications.

To help make this MOD as simple as possible, they have offered both a .zip file for flashing through CWM and a signed .apk for installing. The flash-able version is the simplest means of installing the themed out version. If you choose to go with the .apk version you will want to uninstall the current the GMail application first. You can do that by either long pressing the app and dragging it to the trash can to uninstall if using a secondary launcher application, or you can go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications then find and uninstall it that way.

No matter how you approach it, if you love transparent apps and showing off to your friends what you have that they don’t, pop on over to their Rootzwiki thread and install it. Be sure to read their explanation of things so you know what you are getting yourself into.

New Android Market 3.1.3 Blacked out for Your Enjoyment

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Themed version of the market is one of my favorite mods available. They help add a new aspect of interaction and visual appeal. Not to mention when other people get their hands on your device they wonder why yours is cooler than there. nothing wrong with showing off a little bit, right? You should find it no surprise that the mastermind behind the latest themed out version is our buddy @B-boy. He certainly wastes no time keeping us up to date in the blacked out world.

He has provided to versions for you to test. You may have better luck with the APK file, others may have better luck with the flashable zip. No matter which method you try, be sure to back up your device first. To get your hands on the appropriate file and for full install instructions, direct your browser to B-boys RootzWiki thread.

Colored Market Versions Available for Multiple Devices

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Here we are with another great compilation of mods from B-boy. We just posted his Inverted Google search widget just a but ago. While searching through his collection of work I found these colored variations of the new market. I know how much I love my inverted market and how much everyone enjoyed the color versions of the old market. Well, thanks to B-boy, they are back. Take a look at a few of them below.

As you can tell, unless you are color blind, 3 of the various color options that are available. He also has a the inverted version here as well as pink and purple.  They are made primarily for the Droid, Droid X and Thunderbolt. They may and should work on many other devices. You assume all responsibilities in flashing any of these mods and we recommend you make a back up first as always. Head on over to B-boy’s thread for all appropriate files and install instructions.

Inverted GoogleQuickSearch 1.1.2 – Add some Flare to your Search Widget Again

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

I have been looking for customized search bars for a long time now. I know we often find them in ROMs and in themes, but often times I want to mix and match. That of course required more work that I don’t have the time nor patience to accomplish. With a little leg work by  my favorite app themer,  @B-boy™, we now have an inverted Google quick search box.

It is important to mention that these screen shots are from B-Boy and not myself. I have no idea what theme he is running at the moment. It certainly looks sick though. Your keyboard also will not change to the blacked out one in the images. You are looking just at the Google search box and drop down. He has made this inverted mod available in a simple flash file, but has also included a signed APK if you wish to push it to your system folder via ADB or which ever method you prefer.

Feel free to direct you browser towards B-boys XDA thread to pick up this file and alter that lame Quick Search box.
