DROID 4 Root Discovered, Won’t be available until $500 bounty is collected

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

And just like that, root on the DROID 4 has been achieved. As a previous DROID 3 owner,  I know how annoying it is to wait for your device to be rooted. DJRbliss, better yet known as Dan Rosenberg, has achieved root on the Motorola DROID 4 that was just released today. However, he is not releasing the exploit until a $500 bounty is collected.

I know what you guys are thinking: this guy is so greedy. But that’s not the reason why he wants the $500 bounty-he needs $200 to actually purchase the DROID 4 and another $300 will be donated to the American Red Cross. I think that’s a pretty good trade-off, considering that if you donate, you’re helping achieve root on your brand new DROID 4, as well as donating and helping a good cause.

If you’re interested in donating because you have a DROID 4, or just because you’re awesome, you can donate through WePay found here.

There are still a great number of people using iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, and iPad (these are A4 devices) handsets, but there are still many using the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 which use Apple’s A5 technology – a new processor where the limera1n exploit has been sealed.

The good news here is that

Charlie Miller, a well-known Mac hacker and researcher has reportedly found a way to sneak malware into the App Store and subsequently onto any iOS device through the use of exploiting a flaw in Apple’s restrictions on code signing. According to Forbes, the restrictions allow the malware to steal user data and take control of certain iOS functions.

Miller explained that the code signing restrictions allow only Apple’s approved commands to run in an iOS device’s memory and apps that violate these rules aren’t allowed in the App Store. He found a way to bypass Apple’s security check

Cydia Package isslfix Fixes SSL Vulnerability For iOS < 4.3.5

Friday, August 12th, 2011

With the release of JailbreakMe 3.0 and Apple’s response, iOS has been updated twice in order to patch the JailbreakMe exploit and other vulnerabilities. As mentioned in the iOS 4.3.4 article, updating to iOS 4.3.4 is not recommended as it only fixes the PDF exploit that JailbreakMe used. From there, Apple once again released

iOS 5 Jailbroken (Tethered)

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

About two hours ago, MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd), a prominent developer and hacker for the iDevice, has confirmed that iOS 5 (Beta 1) is jailbreakable. The picture above shows MuscleNerd’s iPod running Cydia. According to him, the jailbreak was done in conjunction with the limera1n exploit and a tethered boot. He mentioned that the boot rom exploit has not been patched and will work on iOS 5 final.

Although a tethered boot is aggravating
