Anti-ACTA protest to sweep across Europe tomorrow

Over 200,000 people have committed to participate in 200 cities, mostly in Europe but with scattered protests in Canada, the US and elsewhere….

iSMEStorage enables users to edit documents in over 30 Clouds using iPad

Friday, October 21st, 2011

London, United Kingdom – iSMEStorage, the popular Cloud and Local File Manager for iPad and iPhone, now supports over 30 Storage Clouds and can enable direct editing of documents in popular iOS office editors such as iWork and Office2 HD, using its unique CloudDav feature.

CloudDav enables a WebDav layer over any Cloud that is added to a SMEStorage Account, and works whether the underlying Cloud supports WebDav or not. This means that popular Clouds such as DropBox, Amazon S3, Google Docs, SkyDrive etc are able to be directly accessed using the WebDav protocol in popular editing Applications.

CEO Ian Osborne stated, “Users have this feature enabled for free when they purchase the iSMEStorage App, but the feature can also be separately purchased and added to a free SMEStorage Web account.”

“We find users don’t necessarily want to swap their Cloud Storage just to be able to work in the manner they desire and a big part of our platform is adding such features where they are deficient or not supported from Cloud Storage Providers.””

“We continue the same thing into the desktop and in our Cloud File Server offering for business, where we offer native Cloud Drive support for over 30 Clouds for every operating system and every major mobile platform, as well as a host of other complimentary features, such as adding FTP to any Cloud, again whether they support it or not, using our unique CloudFTP feature.”

“We also offer a free plugin for OpenOffice / Libra Office and Microsoft Office in which users can load documents on their desktop from any of 30 clouds, edit it, and then save it straight back to their Cloud of choice. This enables users to easily access and edit documents from any Cloud whether at their desktop or on the road using their favourite editing tools.”

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 4.1 or later
* 6.1 MB

As much as we love our iPhone’s natural file management capabilities and app selection, OrganiDoc HD by developer Wenjoy Technology, also available in a non-HD format, thus for the iPhone, is a convenient way to get more out of your iPad’s extra storage space. The iPad app turns your iDevice into a mega flash drive, and allows users to perform several actions not currently present in the stock software. It’s not the greatest bargain we’ve ever seen, the price takes a moment to digest, but if you’re looking for a full-featured file manager on the iPhone or iPad, you’d be hard-pressed to do better.  Let’s take a deeper look with our iPad app review and explore OrganiDoc HD and the many benefits this app will yield.

Concept and Functionality ****~ (4/5)

File management solutions for iOS are nothing new: With Apple’s iron fist locking everything down, it’s a miracle the iPad and iPhone have any business potential at all. There are certainly plenty of offerings that help users peruse, open, save, and store their various media files while on the go. What makes OrganiDoc HD different from any of these other titles is its sheer list of features.

OrganiDoc HD comes prepared, offering support for a vast number of filetypes: These include, but are in no way limited to, DOC, PDF, JPEG, .pages, XLS, HTML, ZIP, RAR, and many, many more. The last two, however, grabbed our attention: OrganiDoc HD actually allows users to save and expand compressed filetypes, now making it easier than ever to load a compressed document from an email on your iPad.

We also found OrganiDoc’s handy cloud-based storage options incredibly useful. Users with a Google Docs, DropBox, Public iDisk, Box.net, Soonr, or MobileMe account can make full use of their subscription to store their files on the cloud. This saves a lot of iDevice disc space, and strikes us a very useful feature, especially considering it’s no different to view a local file than it is to view one on the cloud.

OrganiDoc HD also comes with a host of input/output features, including syncing documents over Wi-Fi or iTunes file sharing, as well as through the standard email app. There’s also a TV out option, which we think tips the scales as far as overall “cool factor” goes—What other app features unzipping potential alongside the option to paste your latest spreadsheet to the HD tele?

Design and Layout ****~ (4/5)

OrganiDoc for iPad

We also appreciated how well-integrated all of OrganiDoc’s features are, as well as how easy they are to reach. We had no problem getting to the areas we wanted, nor did we encounter any hiccups when loading new files—Not even over Wi-Fi. Overall, the developers have made it darn hard to complain about OrganiDoc’s gorgeous graphics and smooth playtime.

Overall Value ***~~ (3/5)

At $4.99, OrganiDoc HD is certainly a high-end application. Also considering apps like DropBox offer a lot of the same functionality for free, OrganiDoc HD is a hard sell. That being said, the app’s flawless layout, huge list of features, and excellent up-time still make it a solid fix for the holes in iOS.

PhatWare Releases PhatPad 1.4 Featuring Integration with Evernote

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Mountain View, California – PhatWare today is pleased to announce the release of a new version of PhatPad 1.4 for iPad, a note-taking and collaboration app featuring PhatWare’s proven handwriting recognition technology. More than just a note-taking app, PhatPad turns an iPad into an advanced brainstorming tool by enabling users to draw, write, and type on the iPad, then instantly share ideas via email, WiFi sync, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, or in PhatPad’s presentation mode.

The new PhatPad includes the latest version of vastly improved WritePad handwriting recognition technology, allowing for the inline text input as well as deferred handwriting recognition. PhatPad’s digital ink technology has also been improved, allowing for easier manipulation of individual strokes and resizing of drawing and handwritten text. PhatPad 1.4 also features integration with Evernote and Google Docs, providing users with the ability to upload their documents as PDF to the popular Internet Cloud services. The text styles feature has also been improved, letting users specify names for custom styles and use larger font sizes.

PhatPad’s key features include:
* Smooth-flowing digital ink technology, which lets iPad users scribble notes as if they are writing on real paper
* The ability to combine drawing, handwritten text, images, and digital text on the same document page to create media-rich content
* A powerful handwriting recognition engine, which automatically converts handwritten notes into text
* Voice notes – record, play, and use in presentation mode
* An advanced Presentation mode, which supports a VGA monitor and allows recording and playing presentations by synchronizing document pages and voice
* PhatPad Document sharing using Dropbox synchronization, Google Docs and Evernote upload, direct access via WiFi or iTunes, and email
* Printing to a printer on wireless network via AirPrint

The beauty of PhatPad as a note-taking, collaboration and brainstorming tool, is that it allows users to draw pictures, jot notes, or put a mixture of pictures, drawings, handwritten and typed text on a virtual scratch pad. The included handwriting recognition engine allows PhatPad users to convert previously recorded handwritten notes into digital text, and edit text using either the handwriting input panel or the keyboard. PhatPad documents can be synchronized with the desktop computer via iTunes or Dropbox, exchanged between two or more devices on the local WiFi network, printed, emailed, or exported to PDF.

Brainstorming and collaborating with team members is simple using PhatPad’s Presentation mode, which allows users to create quick presentations and display them on the iPad screen and external monitor.
