Again with the root for the DROID 4, I know right. We covered a story just the other day about root being obtained with a $500 bounty to release it. The principal was nice, $300 went to the American Red Cross and $200 went to the purchase of a DROID 4. We aren’t strangers to community members starting a bounty to offer to the first developer to do something, but this was the first time we saw a developer hold an exploit hostage for funds. The method and exploit was released by security researcher Dan Rosenberg and he has since changed the parameters of his original thinking. He has released the exploit for everyone, yippee, and all donations will go straight to charity. That is good news. I still think he should get some personal donations for a DROID 4 though, after all, he will bring many other great things to the device if he has one.
Apparently this was considered unacceptable by the raging masses of Android fanboys, who not only believe they are entitled to exploits for free, but are also under the delusion that $200 total is a lot of money in exchange for this kind of work. I’m disappointed in the response by the community, but I’m going to turn it into a positive thing.
The method is pretty straight forward and simple, even for the less confident of rooters. You will need to running a Windows-based PC for the moment, download the .zip file, plug-in the Droid 4, toss your device into debug mode and run the exploit file. Sounds pretty simple right? The over all process should take only a few minutes and you will expect to see a few reboots, so don’t be scared.
Pop on over to the Vulnfactory to make a charitable donation and pick up the exploit. No donation required, but it would be a nice thing to do.

Just by looking at the wallpaper from the image above, I wanted to download this CM7 lock theme. Sad thing is, the wallpaper does not come with the lock theme, and cried just a little because she is HOT. Okay well after I dried the tears rolling down my cheeks and flashed the zip file, I was pretty impressed. Lockscreen definitely has a nice MIUI look to it now.
With this theme, you of course have those options of using the sliding tab, bubbles, the lense, or the rotary. The bubbles looked pretty sweet with the ripples around the and the lense lock style matched the MIUI style completely. The revamped rotary I thought was the best looking style to go with this theme. Something about how the silver bar that goes across the screen is very eye-catching to me. I kept turning my screen off and on just to look at it again and again. So check this theme out for your CM7 lockscreen by clicking the link to the thread below. Make sure you backup just to be on the safe side, and flash away. There is also some custom icons you can add to it for those who want to get to certain apps from your lockscreen. Now I am determined to find out who that girl is in the image above.

A great MIUI Theme doesn’t have to be based on the latest and greatest Android OS. It doesn’t even have to be high quality HD icons either. It just needs to have all the right elements built in to give your device a unique look and feel. Inkwind offers just that. As you can see in the images above, all the icons are really cool drawn out versions. It also has a set of elegant looking oriental art too. There is something magical about oriental art.
As will all MIUI themes, this one is free for you to install and enjoy. Snag the file via the download link below. It will download as a .zip file, so you will want to remove the .zip and name it .mtz and save it. Be sure to move it to the MIUI/Theme folder on your SD card. Apply it via the Theme app found on your homescreen and enjoy.

You may have noticed various new ROMs running around CommunityRelease, XDA, RootzWiki or wherever. Some of the latest ROMs for your HTC devices have been including the new Beats audio software inside. That is awesome by the way. But some of you are happy with the ROM you are one and don’t feel like flashing, yet again. Especially if it is a developer you have never used before. I get it. I have been there. Sometimes the ROMs look great and then leave you hanging. What can you do…. Well, you can just flash the Beats Audio yourself.
Courtesy of some work done by smokin1337 from XDA, you can now flash just the Beats part straight to your device. Talk about taking the hard work out of it all. Of course there is some risk. Even though it is made and should work on all Sense 3.0 and up ROMs, it may fail to flash or screw something else up. It was build specifically for the EVO 3D but reports are saying other devices are good to go. You are the only one that is responsible for your device. Always make a nandroid back up before flashing something new. There is also a current question as to if the FC issue that has been reported is on Odex or Deodexed ROMs. If you feel like playing guinea pig on that one, I know the community and the dev would greatly appreciate the feedback.
If you are game to check it out, head on over to smokin1337′s XDA thread for the file and some other potentially useful information.

P3Droid has been showing us a great deal of love over the last few days. Now he has just uploaded the latest in audio goodness. Providing us all with the ringtones, notifications and other sounds that we love to hear come from a new device. Some of them are old and have been heard a great many times from around the web. There are however a good number of new sounds that I am sure you will love to have access too.
As per P3Droid’s request, we will not post the zip file on our site. Instead you will need to head to his OP and pick it up yourself. The downside? If you are not already a member of MyDroidWorld, you will need to register an account before you can snag these files your self.
Head on over to the OP HERE to get your ringtone on.

There isn’t a whole lot for me to say about this lock screen. It is super clean and offers a very big, but minimal look. I like how the music player looks best of all. To access the music controls you simply double tap on the clock. This theme was originally for the iPhone and named similar, TypoPhone. Carlspr21 on Deviantart has graciously ported it for our enjoyment.
You will want to head over to Deviant art to pick up the file needed. It can be located on the top right of the page. It will come as a zip file and you will want to rename it from zip to mtz before you can use the lock screen. As a reminder, this is a lock screen, not a full theme. You will place the file inside MIUI/Theme on you SD card. Using the Theme app you will select ‘customize’ then ‘Lockscreen’ to apply it.

MIUI is easily right up there with CM7. Both of these ROMs offer heavy customization and are favorites among many developers and users a like. One of the many great things about MIUI is the ability to customize the lock screen quickly and easily. This is one thing I think CyanogenMOD lacks. For that simple reason alone I have contemplated switching to MIUI, but have yet to under go that process. That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate great looking work when I see it.
Those of you that are currently running MIUI, have seen many variations of the 5 way unlock screen. Offering a quick and simple way to unlock your device to the specified app of your choice. It really helps streamline the use of your device. We have found another one that takes it a step further. SiLeNcE28 offers you a 10 way unlock screen. It looks great. Take a quick look below -
The lock screen theme has two versions available, one with DoubleTwist and Miren Browser and a version with MIUI music and stock browser. It also come in two languages, English and German.
HOW TO INSTALL THEME
The theme will always be a .mtz file. Some might put the .mtz file in a .rar file or a .zip file.
if it’s a .mtz file, do this:
1. copy it to this folder: /sdcard/MIUI/Themes
2. (on the phone) open Theme Manager
3. go to Edit theme
4. then Lockscreen Style
5. choose the lock screen theme you want
if it’s a .rar file or .zip file, do this:
1. extract with 7zip or winrar
2. then there should be a .mtz file that’s been extracted
3. follow the above instructions for .mtz file
You can pick up any of the theme variations through this LINK. SiLeNcE28 has made life pretty simple and put all the version in one simple .zip file. If you are interested in get the music controls as well, visit this download LINK.

We have posted various themed out and modified version of various applications to help keep a refreshing look on your device. Thanks to a lot of hard work by so many devs, the options don’t ever stop. After the last GMail update that was rolled out, B-boy and ecsnead69 got to work and gave us a very nice blacked out version that I have been using ever since. I personally love the blacked out apps. I also really like transparent versions. The 2 guys from RootzWiki have added that option to their list of currently available modifications.
To help make this MOD as simple as possible, they have offered both a .zip file for flashing through CWM and a signed .apk for installing. The flash-able version is the simplest means of installing the themed out version. If you choose to go with the .apk version you will want to uninstall the current the GMail application first. You can do that by either long pressing the app and dragging it to the trash can to uninstall if using a secondary launcher application, or you can go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications then find and uninstall it that way.
No matter how you approach it, if you love transparent apps and showing off to your friends what you have that they don’t, pop on over to their Rootzwiki thread and install it. Be sure to read their explanation of things so you know what you are getting yourself into.

I am sure you have seen the news floating around about the HTC Puccini over the last couple of weeks. A final name has been settled upon and it will officially be called the Jetstream. This little device will be hitting AT&T exclusively from from what I have read and will be available September 4th. Packing in a whopping $700 dollar price tag. Seems a bit out of reach for many, that is nearly a full months rent for me. I don’t see one of these devices landing in my hands anytime soon. Although thst is all important news, what is even better news for our community is what was just leaked over at XDA.
Forum member ikingblack has stumbled across a ROM for the Jetstream. From the sound of it, many developers already have their hands on this and are working hard to port it over and make it flashable to the HTC Flyer. This currently doesn’t straight flash to the Flyer, so don’t go thinking you can grab it and see what it is all about. The file is 464MB in size and should have plenty of goodies buried inside of it. I haven’t had a chance to look through it just yet, but maybe some interesting stuff could be pulled out and moved to other tablets or devices. It is going to be a tough battle to get this ported over, but if anyone can make it happen, it is sure going to be the devs working together in the community.
If you want to get you hands on the ZIP file, head on over the thread ikingblack has started to snag the download.

Writepad is an app that is developed by XDA member transceiver. The application was originally written for the Asus eee Transformer on 3.2 and is designed to give you a better handwriting experience using the optional stylus. The developer is looking for beta testers to try this app out on other various tablets and provide feed back along with any issues you experience.
Features:
Smooth writing experience: no lag and no jitter between the stylus movement and the screen response.
Smart palm detection. Only records the writing from your stylus! (note: only works for right handed people now. will add the setting for left-handers later)
Export page and notebook: share the page as PNG file, or export the whole thing as a ZIP file to your dropbox or gmail.
Paper type: comes with four familiar paper types.
Stylus calibration: Instead of drawing where the stylus touches the screen, it will draw where you *think* the stylus tip is. Good for those thicker tip styluses.
If you would like to give this a test run and see how she works out for you, head on over to transceiver’s XDA thread for the apk file.

Nothing stands out more and is more of an eyesore then that one app that you use a bunch that isn’t themed to match the rest of your apps. Google Voice is one of those highly used applications that needs a new look. rujelus22 at XDA thought so too. In conjunction with his release of the Google Plus inverted application he also released his inverted Google Voice app.

I love the look of these themed out version. Just like with the last app he released, it is bundled in a zip file so you will need to extract it first. Some people have had luck installing it directly over the original version. You can give that a whirl first, if not then do the usual uninstall and install this one. You can pick up the inverted Google_Voice/GoogleVoice-4.2.32.zip here or by visiting rujelus22′s XDA thread and grab both of his themed apps. Be sure to thank him for his work and for sharing.

Time to toss out another wicked set of icons for you guys to get your hands on. The original concept and design was by JackieTran from Deviantart. They were created for the for the iPod touch, but as we all know, Android users like icons too. XDA member iRide113 took a few days to port them over and rename each image to make life easy on us. Check em out, I have a feeling you are gonna like these.
There is a good mix of rounded and squared icons in this pack. He is in the process of working his way through all the icons and rounding everything off. That will come in a later update. I just downloaded these but haven’t had a chance to put any of them to use just yet, but I would image a solid black background would make these look really sleek. If you would like to grab the zip file head on over to iRide113′s XDA thread. As always be sure to thank the guy for making this available for us.

Wallpapers are a dime a dozen any more, well more like free every where you look. None the less, there are many that are better than others. We all have the need to make our devices as custom as possible. I know I have personally used many Android wallpapers and quite a few ‘Galaxy S’ or ‘Vibrant‘ wallpapers. There’s something special about displaying what device you have on your home screen. Not quite sure why, but it works.
XDA member AZ2ENVY and his wife put together 23 for the HTC Sensation that are very beautiful. Take a look at a preview below.

By all means head on over to the creators XDA page to view them all. You can even pick up the .zip file if you want all 23 in one fail swoop.
